Abel had been charged with the murders of Prianna Weathers and Lauren Bullis, a Department of Homeland Security employee who was tragically killed while walking her dog. Originally from the United Kingdom, Abel had been granted U.S. citizenship in 2022 during his service in the Navy in San Diego. His past includes a guilty plea in 2024 for assaulting police officers, which was related to struggles with mental health.
