TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Savannah Guthrie, well-known as the host of the 'Today' show, has expressed her desperation and called for prayers to help locate her elderly mother, Nancy Guthrie, who authorities believe may have been kidnapped or abducted.
In a heartfelt social media post on Monday, Savannah appealed to the public for assistance in bringing her mother home, stating: Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. Bring her home.
Concerns grow for Nancy Guthrie's well-being, particularly regarding her medical needs. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stressed the urgency of locating her, declaring, If she’s alive right now her meds are vital. I can’t stress that enough. It’s been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us if she doesn’t have those meds, it can become fatal.
The search effort, now spanning into its second day, was featured prominently on 'Today', although Savannah Guthrie was absent from the show, reportedly remaining in Tucson to assist with the ongoing investigation. Growing up in Tucson, Savannah graduated from the University of Arizona and began her media career at KVOA-TV.
Nancy was last seen on Saturday night at her Tucson home, where she lived alone. Her disappearance was reported on Sunday after a concerned church member alerted a family member about her absence. Subsequently, a family search of her home led to a 911 call. Investigators are now exploring the possibility that she was taken overnight.
Authorities are particularly worried due to her limited mobility and the belief that she would not have left on her own volition; however, they confirm she is of sound mind. Search teams have utilized drones and dogs in their investigations, supported by local volunteers and Border Patrol. The homicide team is also involved in the case, which law enforcement has deemed potentially criminal in nature.
Search efforts have included an aerial survey of the Catalina Foothills area, where Nancy resides in an affluent neighborhood characterized by Saguaro cactus. As search initiatives continue, the sheriff's department remains hopeful for her safe return and calls for anyone with information to come forward.
