In brief
The inspiring journey of Isidora Uribe Silva, a young law student from Chile, highlights her advocacy work in promoting inclusivity for people with disabilities and women globally.
Isidora Uribe Silva's journey into advocacy began when she was just 12 years old. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and for the first time, she faced the harsh reality of bullying in a new school. With no support from teachers or accommodations made for her disability, she felt increasingly isolated, leading to a seven-month absence from school. This turning point ultimately led her to Institución Teresiana in Santiago, Chile, where she was accepted despite her condition. Now 20, Uribe Silva is pursuing law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and dedicates her life to fighting systemic exclusion for marginalized communities. Her personal encounters with discrimination have fueled her drive to advocate for inclusive policies both in Chile and on the international stage, particularly for women with disabilities.Uribe Silva made headlines at just 13 years old when she created an app, Encuentra Tu Lugar (Find Your Place), aimed at helping individuals with disabilities locate accessible parking spots. This early achievement catalyzed her mission, leading to the establishment of a foundation that shares the same name and values. In her continued efforts, she became part of the Generation Equality Adolescent Committee of U.N. Women and was recently selected for the U.N. Women Leaders Network. This influential platform enables her to advocate for gender equality and female leadership in decision-making processes globally.Through interviews highlighting her experiences, Uribe Silva emphasizes the need for systemic change and equal opportunities for all, particularly for those whose voices often go unheard. Despite her young age, her passion for advocacy paints a hopeful picture of the future as she continues her work to create an inclusive world for everyone.
