In a concerning escalation of violence, several prisons across France experienced a series of attacks overnight. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin revealed that prisons faced intimidation tactics, notably including burning vehicles and gunfire. Reports from La Parisien detailed incidents at various locations, including Toulon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Valence, Nîmes, Luynes, Villepinte, and Nanterre.
Darmanin, who announced his visit to Toulon to support correctional officers, stated that the government is instituting measures aimed at significantly disrupting criminal networks. Although he did not assign direct blame for the attacks, the rising incidents prompted urgent calls for action to safeguard prison security and address the threat posed by organized crime.
