Marius Borg Høiby detained on multiple charges, including rape allegations and previous incidents of violence.
Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested by Oslo police on suspicion of rape, as revealed in an official statement. Høiby, who is not granted a royal title or obligations, is facing serious allegations following an investigation that also involves charges related to assault.
On Tuesday, authorities confirmed the rape accusation, indicating it involves an act committed with a victim who was reportedly unable to resist. Høiby has publicly denied the allegations; however, he is already embroiled in multiple legal issues concerning acts against four other individuals. The nature of the current allegations describes a sexual act that reportedly did not involve intercourse.
Høiby was apprehended late Monday night while in a vehicle with another individual who is linked to a separate case. Initial allegations date back to August 4, when he faced charges related to violence and criminal mischief. The police elaborated that these charges have now grown to include "maltreatment" in close relationships and breaches of a restraining order favoring the same victim. Additionally, a report was filed concerning Høiby’s operation of a vehicle without a valid license.
Law enforcement has also conducted a search at his residence, located at Skaugum, the official home of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Most notably, Høiby’s history includes previous charges of abuse against ex-girlfriends and incidents involving threats against others. The Norwegian palace has refrained from commenting on the recent developments surrounding Høiby.
