Disney Treasure Rescues Stranded Passengers from Sinking Catamaran
A heroic rescue on the high seas as Disney's latest cruise ship aids stranded sailors.
On November 10, the Disney Treasure, a majestic new cruise ship, became a beacon of hope as it rescued four individuals from the sinking catamaran Serenity, which was more than 200 miles off the coast of Bermuda. The fractional craft began flooding due to a malfunction in its escape hatch seal, prompting the passengers to send out a distress signal to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard initiated an emergency response and quickly identified the Disney Treasure as the nearest vessel, which was approximately 80 miles away on its journey from Europe to Florida for its maiden voyage.
Acting swiftly, the crew of the Disney Treasure launched a small rescue boat, successfully bringing all four passengers to safety. Captain Marco Nogara of Disney Treasure expressed pride in his crew’s response to the emergency, stating, “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”
The catamaran Serenity, measuring just 15 meters in length, highlighted the stark realities of nautical travel. Meanwhile, the majestic 340-meter Disney Treasure is set to debut in December, marking its place as the sixth vessel in Disney's cruise fleet. This dramatic incident underscores not only the importance of training and preparedness at sea but also the community within the maritime world, willing to assist those in dire situations.
