Smokey Robinson Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit from Four Women
Four anonymous plaintiffs accuse the music legend of serious offenses including sexual battery and negligence.
In a shocking turn of events, Motown icon Smokey Robinson is facing a lawsuit filed by four anonymous women alleging sexual assault, sexual battery, false imprisonment, and negligence. The plaintiffs, who worked as housekeepers and assistants, are seeking $50 million in damages in a case lodged in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The lawsuit alleges that the 85-year-old Robinson engaged in egregious behavior over the years, including sexually assaulting his employees when his wife, Frances Robinson, was away. Specific instances describe the musician summoning the women to various locations in his residences in Chatsworth and Bell Canyon, sometimes emerging from the shower inappropriately. The plaintiffs allege that Robinson sexually assaulted them on numerous occasions, citing incidents in a designated “blue bedroom” and other private areas of his properties.
The lawsuit names Robinson’s wife as a co-defendant, stating that she contributed to a hostile work environment by allegedly using derogatory language and fostering a climate of fear. According to attorney John Harris, the anonymous women felt powerless due to Robinson's stature and reputation, as they navigated low-wage employment in vulnerable positions. Their lawyer further emphasized that the women were not only underpaid but also lacked adequate resources to shield themselves from the alleged abuse.
This legal action follows claims that the women, who operated below minimum wage, worked long hours without proper breaks or overtime compensation, ultimately leading them to resign due to the unwelcoming and abusive atmosphere. The lawsuit details a pattern of sexual misconduct that reportedly began in 2006 involving coercive tactics that left the women feeling threatened and in danger of immediate harm.
While the seriousness of these allegations has raised eyebrows, it is important to note that no police reports or criminal charges have been made against Robinson at this time. Both Los Angeles County District Attorney's office and local police have yet to review any formal case related to these claims. As of now, representatives for Robinson have not publicly addressed the lawsuit or its multiple implications.
