A tragic incident leads to the deaths of two Scottish men in Fuengirola, with investigations underway in connection to organized crime.
Two Scottish men were tragically shot dead during an incident at Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola, a popular tourist location in southern Spain. The shooting occurred on Saturday evening, following the arrival of a car from which a masked gunman fired multiple shots at patrons, ultimately leading to the deaths of both men at the scene.
Spanish officials have confirmed the victims' nationality, while Javier Salas of the central government in the Malaga province stated that specialized units are now spearheading the investigation. According to reports from local media, the violent act took place shortly after 11 PM, coinciding with the bar screening the UEFA Champions League final.
Authorities are currently on the lookout for the shooter, who fled in the same vehicle he arrived in. While no arrests have yet been made, police are considering the potential links between the killings and organized crime in the area. Investigators are also probing repeated shooting incidents in Costa del Sol, suspected to be connected to drug-related activities.
For their part, Police Scotland has stated they cannot comment on any possible connection to ongoing gang disputes in Scotland, advising questions be directed to their Spanish counterparts. Notably, the UK's Foreign Office has indicated that they have not yet been approached for consular support but are prepared to assist British citizens if necessary.
