Several people were injured after a shooting and a fire at a Mormon church in Michigan, local police say.


Officials confirmed there was an active shooter incident at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a town 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Detroit, on Sunday morning.


There are multiple victims and the shooter is down, police stated. The church is actively on fire. The Grand Blanc Township Police Department assured that there was no further threat to the public.


While the exact number of injured individuals is unclear, authorities have not released the suspect's name or motive yet.


US Attorney General Pam Bondi commented on the matter via X, expressing her distress over what appears to be a horrific shooting and fire at the church and noted that FBI and ATF agents were deployed to the scene.


Bondi expressed her heartache, stating, Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy.
