12 People Killed in Polish Bus Crash on Hungarian Motorway

In the early hours of Sunday, a Polish tourist coach veered off the M3 motorway in Hungary, overturning into a ditch and killing twelve passengers while dozens were wounded.

The accident occurred at around 01:00 local time, and police say the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. He has been taken into custody.

Firefighters began lifting the rear axle of the 24‑tonne bus and waited for cranes to arrive to lift the vehicle and extract victims trapped underneath.

Hungarian ambulance services treated 37 individuals for minor injuries, nine people with serious wounds, and one with life‑threatening injuries.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Below is a photograph of the wreckage on the motorway.
