Bowen Yang, beloved comedian and the first Chinese-American cast member of Saturday Night Live, has revealed he will be leaving the iconic sketch show after the current season. In an emotional post shared on Instagram, Yang did not delve into the specifics of his departure but expressed gratitude, stating, I loved working at SNL, and most of all I loved the people.

Yang joined the show as a writer in 2018 before making his mark as a performer, quickly becoming a standout figure with a keen comedic style.

The 35-year-old comedian reflected on the lessons he learned during his time on the show, humorously noting, i learned about myself (bad with wigs). i learned about others (generous, vulnerable, hot). He also paid tribute to fellow cast members and producer Lorne Michaels.

Yang has appeared in memorable sketches, including portrayals of the iceberg that sank the Titanic and the controversial ex-Congressman George Santos. His final episode will feature guest host Ariana Grande, a fellow cast member from the upcoming film Wicked: For Good in which Yang also appears.

With five Emmy nominations under his belt for his work on SNL, Yang co-hosts the popular podcast Las Culturistas and is set to lend his voice to an animated character in a forthcoming adaptation of The Cat in the Hat.
