This legislation, effective January 1, 2022, prohibits local governments from asking street vendors about their immigration status or requiring them to provide personal information without a judicial subpoena. The intent is to mitigate the risks these vendors face, as their work in public spaces makes them more visible and thus more vulnerable to immigration enforcement actions.
