Italian Winery Stolen 30,000 Bottles Worth €5m
A crime on Saturday at the storeroom of the historic Marchesi Antinori winery in Tuscany led to a loss of thirty thousand bottles of high‑grade Italian red wine.
The thieves – seven masked men – disabled alarms, turned off cameras and used the site’s forklifts to load two trucks with the prized blends Tignanello, Solaia and Guado al Tasso.
The total of 5 million euros is one of the largest wine‑theft scandals ever recorded in Italy, the manager said, while hoping that traffic cameras on the nearby roads will help trace the cargo.
Experts say the selection of wines, ranging from 150 to 500 euros each, points to connoisseurs with inside knowledge.
Marchesi Antinori, founded in 1385, exports to 170 countries and last year reported revenue of 263 million euros. A similar wave of wine thefts has been reported across the country this year.
