Authorities were called to Hilton’s home on Tuesday after viewers of the TikTok broadcast reported seeing the streamer appear to self‑harm. The Miami sheriff’s office confirmed the situation and noted that the man was alone in his house at the time, though they did not disclose his name.
Hilton’s website issued an update stating that he had suffered significant blood loss, that his treatment would be a "long process", and that he would be held under Florida’s Baker Act—a legal framework that provides services for people experiencing a mental health crisis.
The blog owner, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days. National security officials and health professionals have expressed concern over the potential long‑term effects of his injuries.
TikTok’s automated moderation systems flagged the livestream within minutes, and the company notified its US moderation team. A delay in removal – attributed to moderator error – prompted the platform to alert law enforcement, close several subsequent streams within 90 seconds and ban the account.
Hilton originally adopted the pseudonym as a reference to Paris Hilton, launching his gossip blog in 2005. Over the years he has attracted millions of visitors but also faced backlash for harsh commentary on celebrities and commentary that was later described as "mean or cruel".
