Poland Detains Man Suspected of Plotting to Kill Prime Minister Tusk
January 12, 2026 – Warsaw
Polish authorities have arrested Jacek Dobrzynski after an email sent to the State Protection Service detailed a plan to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak‑Kamysz. Dobrzynski, a Polish citizen from the Lower Silesia region, was taken into custody by police teams that responded to an urgent warning issued by the interior ministry.
"We act swiftly and decisively when credible threats reach us," Interior Minister Karolina Galecka said. "The safety of our officials is paramount," she added.
Prime Minister Tusk greeted the arrest with a statement thanking the police for their prompt action. "The swift and decisive response of the police is a reminder of the professionalism and dedication of our security forces," he said.
The State Protection Service, responsible for ministerial security, confirmed that the email was forwarded to police by the service itself after detecting unusual details that could indicate a real threat. The investigation is ongoing, with officials assessing the potential scope of the planned attack.
Donald Tusk has been prime minister since 2023, with previous terms from 2007 to 2014. He previously served as President of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
