Swedish Rape Inquiry Related to Mbappé Concludes Without Charges
Swedish prosecutors announced the closure of a rape inquiry linked to football star Kylian Mbappé, citing insufficient evidence.
Swedish authorities have officially closed their investigation into an alleged rape case that was reportedly linked to Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French football team. Prosecutors stated that there was insufficient evidence to continue, leading to the conclusion of the inquiry. Notably, Mbappé, a high-profile athlete currently playing for Real Madrid, was never named by the prosecutors as a suspect nor was he notified regarding the investigation.
The case gained significant media attention after it was alleged that the incident occurred in Stockholm, where Mbappé was staying on October 10. Various Swedish media reports, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, had identified him as a person of interest. Authorities were observed searching the Bank hotel where he was accommodated, with reports suggesting that they removed items, including clothing, as potential evidence.
Following the allegations, Mbappé's lawyer asserted that they were preparing to take legal action for defamation, emphasizing the player’s denial of any involvement. In a recent interview on a French television program, Mbappé stated, “I haven’t received anything, no summons... I'm not involved.”
The prosecutor overseeing the case, Marina Chirakova, confirmed the decision to close the inquiry, stating that there was not enough substantiation to proceed. As the situation unfolded, Mbappé’s legal team condemned the media narratives as damaging and unfounded. Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, his lawyer, reiterated that Mbappé always maintains a level of caution and care to avoid situations that may put him at risk.
This incident comes during a successful period for Mbappé, who recently achieved his 50th Champions League goal following a transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) earlier this year. Renowned for his historical achievements, including a World Cup win in 2018 and being a key player for PSG alongside global stars like Messi and Neymar, Mbappé continues to be a major figure in the world of football.
