Interpol’s Operation Global Chain, coordinated in June across 59 nations, secured over 1,000 arrests and identified 2,070 victims – mostly women – who had been trafficked for sexual exploitation, forced labour, or criminal activity.
The multi‑agency effort involved 40,000 officers from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe and was led by Interpol with support from Europol, Frontex and national police forces.
Key breakthroughs included dismantling a Cambodian‑based network that converted victims into online scamming operations, and a European ring that trafficked under‑age girls recruited via social media into sex work.
Victims rescued by Argentinian and Bolivian police were referred to protection services and 465 investigations were launched.
Interpol secretary Valdecy Urquiza warned that human trafficking remains the most lucrative form of organised crime, generating billions in illicit revenue annually, and praised the operation as proof that joint action can dismantle cross‑border criminal networks.
