From Tragedy to Hope: The Alhashemi Family's Journey After Loss
Haunted by the loss of their beloved daughter Sara in a tragic Channel crossing in April 2024, the Alhashemi family has finally found a semblance of peace and stability.
The family, who have spent 15 years navigating the complexities of asylum in Europe, faced dire circumstances when they attempted to cross from Belgium to England in search of safety. Their desperate journey ended in heartbreak when Sara, only seven years old, suffocated under the weight of desperate passengers onboard the overcrowded boat.
Fast forward a year later, the family received life-changing news as they secured a place in a social housing unit in Rouvroy, Northern France, culminating in the birth of a healthy baby girl, Sally. Nour, the mother, expressed joy at the arrival of Sally, who they believe carries a piece of their lost daughter with her.

Despite the criticism Ahmed has faced for risking his family's safety during their perilous journey, the family's latest chapter is filled with hope. The Alhashemi family finally has the potential for stability as they adapt to their new life in France, where they can dream of a future filled with opportunity for their children.
Now, Ahmed plans to start a small business and Nour dreams of opening a bakery. We have suffered for 15 years. Always on the move... But now I feel as if my whole life has opened before me,” Ahmed remarked.
The journey hasn't been easy, but the family is committed to creating a brighter future for themselves and their children, carrying the memory of Sara in their hearts as they embark on this new beginning.
