Several people are feared to have been killed and injured in Nigeria after a suspected suicide bomber carried out an attack on a mosque in Borno state.

Eyewitnesses said the blast happened during evening prayers. One report suggests seven people were killed, but there has been no official confirmation of any casualties.

Unverified footage on social media appears to show the aftermath of the explosion, with people standing in a market area and dust rising in the air.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Maiduguri, which is the capital of Borno state; however, militants have a history of targeting mosques and crowded places in the region with suicide bombings and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks.
