Trump Proposes Monumental 'Arc de Trump' for Washington, D.C.

The White House has unveiled plans for a gold-accented giant victory arch dubbed the Arc de Trump, that Donald Trump wants built in the nation's capital.

The proposed 250-foot (76m) monument, if approved, would be taller than the US Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial, featuring a golden Lady Liberty-like torch and crown.

In a message on social media, Trump described the arch as the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World, claiming it would be a wonderful addition for all Americans to enjoy. The arch is part of Trump's controversial plans to reshape Washington's landscape and is expected to face legal hurdles similar to those encountered with his new ballroom project.

The administration has officially filed plans with the Commission of Fine Arts, a panel consisting of Trump allies, for review next week. American taxpayers will contribute to the project, as revealed in a publicly available spending plan for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), which indicates $2 million in special funds and $13 million in matching funds dedicated to the arch.

Trump has previously stated that leftover funds from his ballroom project could also finance the arch. Renderings depict gold inscriptions reading One Nation Under God, crowned with two gold eagles and flanked by statues of four gold lions.

Davis Ingle, a White House spokesman, stated that the arch will serve as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices borne by so many American heroes throughout our 250-year history so we can enjoy our freedoms today.

Reflecting Trump's desire for a grand, welcoming structure, the arch aims to greet visitors entering the capital from Arlington National Cemetery across the Memorial Bridge. When announcing the project last year, Trump commented on the perceived need for such a monument in that location.

This arch is just one of numerous efforts by the Trump administration to alter the capital's aesthetics, which also includes the upcoming renovations of the Kennedy Center, now to be known as the Trump-Kennedy Center. These ambitious plans have attracted legal challenges from historic preservation groups.
