Investigators in Georgia are hunting a suspect after a mass shooting that claimed two lives and left 35 people wounded.

Approximately 1,000 attendees were gathered for a block party in the rural city of Vienna when more than 50 gunshots rang out. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, while 25 others were taken to hospitals, some in critical condition.

Victims ranged in age from 14 to 51, and no arrests have been announced. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the attack.

The shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. local time during a Dooly High School homecoming event, although the gathering was not hosted by the school. School officials issued a statement of support for the families affected.

Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy described the scene as chaotic, with people fleeing in all directions while officers moved to locate and aid the injured. Witnesses at the crime scene reported the gunfire sounded “like a machine gun.”

The two deceased victims were found on Pine Street, several blocks from where the shooting began. Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls identified the men as 20‑ and 23‑year-olds.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has joined the inquiry, and the Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies on the victims. Investigations remain active and ongoing as authorities seek more leads and any potential suspect.
