French national Sylvie Yasmina

The Harrowing Story

A French wife and her five children were discovered in a cramped, dilapidated room in Bara, a mountainous town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after police were alerted by a son’s secret report.

Police officers who eventually raided the house found the family with bruises all over their bodies, evidence of a daily cycle of physical and psychological abuse.

The victim, 54‑year‑old Sylvie Yasmina, shared that her husband, a Pakistani national, had “effectively imprisoned” the family since the couple moved back to Pakistan from Australia in 2014.

A Decade of Seclusion

Yasmina reported that she was barred from contact with outsiders, her older children were denied schooling, and the three younger children, born in Pakistan, never enrolled in education.

She described her husband as “very violent” and said the daily beatings and psychological pressure had ruined what she feared would be the future of both her and her children.

Police Action and Future Steps

Following the raid, the woman and children were moved to a women’s shelter in Peshawar. Authorities plan to relocate the family back to France where they will seek support and justice.

Investigations into the husband’s illegal residency in Australia and his current status are underway, but his identity has not yet been fully confirmed.

For the Yasmina family, the rescue marks a first step toward healing from a long‑standing abuse, and highlights the importance of vigilance and support for families trapped in similar situations across borders.
