U.S. alt‑pop star Oliver Tree, 32, was killed when the helicopter he was travelling in collided with another above Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
Six people died in the crash, which also set a dealership car park ablaze and was followed by thick smoke and flames over the surrounding area.
Brazilian media footage shows one of the helicopters dropping from the sky before the collision, and authorities say an investigation into the cause is underway.
The Military Fire Department of Rio was dispatched to the site at around 09:00 local time, and the incident affected nearby traffic and emergency services.
Tree was on a world tour; his last show was in São Paulo on 6 June, and he had been scheduled to perform in Lisbon later that month.
Born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California, the artist was known for hits including “Life Goes On,” “Miss You,” and “Alien Boy,” and holds a Guinness World Record for the largest kick scooter.
Colleagues in music and entertainment offered heartfelt tributes. KSI, the YouTuber and BGT judge, posted a tearful message on X praising Tree’s talent and reminding fans of his “how much music to make.”
Steve‑O, the stuntman and TV personality, shared his friendship with Tree, calling him a supportive friend who always checked in.
Fans, friends, and industry peers continue to mourn the loss of a charismatic performer whose career was rapidly expanding on the global stage.
