On Wednesday afternoon, a 63‑year‑old British man was killed while paragliding near the Palau de Noguera area, close to the town of Tremp in Catalonia, Spain. The incident occurred at approximately 13:30 local time (14:30 BST) when emergency services received a distress call regarding a potential accident in the region.
Rescuers found the victim seriously injured but alive, and first‑aid was administered until medical teams could reach the scene. Despite these efforts, the man later died from the injuries sustained during the fall. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the crash, although local media suggested he may have tangled in nearby power lines before hitting the ground.
The Catalan government reported that three fire‑brigades and two medical teams arrived on site, while the Mossos d’Esquadra coordinated investigation with five teams from its citizen security and investigation units. The British Foreign Office confirmed that it was supporting the victim’s family through consular channels.
Palau de Noguera, situated near Àger, is a well‑known spot for paragliders and hang gliders along the Pyrenees’ edge. The tragedy highlights the inherent risks of the sport in regions with large wind currents and infrastructure that can potentially pose hazards. As the investigation continues, further details will be released by local authorities.
