A second ransom note sent to Savannah Guthrie’s family after her mother’s kidnapping claims that Nancy Guthrie has died.
The note appeared on 6 February and, unlike the first message that demanded bitcoin, it apologized for the death and said the kidnappers had not intended for her to die. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the investigation is still active and that they are working closely with the FBI to uncover the truth.
After Nancy’s disappearance on 31 January, the first ransom note was delivered to various media outlets, demanding a substantial payment and providing details about her home. The second note, a few days later, used similar language but contained no financial demand, instead lamenting the loss and offering an apology to the family.
Authorities urge the media to withhold publication of the notes until the investigation is complete. The family has offered a $1 million reward, with the FBI pledging an additional $100,000, for any information that leads to Nancy’s return.
Surveillance footage has captured a masked individual outside the residence, and officials have warned that Nancy’s health was poor and she was missing essential medication. Ongoing searches continue, with the FBI and local police coordinating their efforts in the Tucson area.
