Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev confirmed the suspect had been seized shortly after the shooting. He stated that the police are looking for the motive behind the attack and urged residents not to spread unverified rumours.

The protest‑free death toll stands at four: a fellow soldier killed in the barracks, and three civilians—a 71‑year‑old man, a 59‑year‑old man and a 64‑year‑old woman—shot in Khmelnytske. Additional victims remain in hospital care.

Crimea has been under Russian control since 2014. The international community largely views the annexation as an occupation of territory belonging to Ukraine, and Moscow’s substantial military presence in the area remains a point of tension, with Kiev carrying out drone and missile strikes aimed at Russian troops.

Authorities remain on alert, with officials stressing that doctors are doing everything possible to save the injured. The investigation continues as local and international stakeholders watch the situation closely.
