President-elect Donald Trump has officially nominated Sean Duffy, a former Republican congressman from Wisconsin and current Fox Business host, as the upcoming Secretary of Transportation. Duffy, who strongly supported Trump throughout his presidency, becomes the second Fox commentator appointed to the new cabinet.
Trump praised Duffy on Truth Social, calling him “a tremendous and well-liked public servant” admired on both sides of the political aisle. If confirmed, Duffy will manage a budget exceeding $110 billion, focusing on various transportation sectors including aviation, rail, and automotive policy. Trump highlighted Duffy's commitment to improving the nation’s infrastructure, promising to initiate "The Golden Age of Travel," with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and innovation.
Duffy, who has a background as a prosecutor and former reality TV personality from shows like "The Real World," served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 until 2019. He is married to Rachel Campos-Duffy, a prominent Fox News figure, and they have nine children, which he cites as influencing his perspective on family travel safety.
Duffy is set to succeed Pete Buttigieg, who held the role under Biden since 2021. His tenure will involve addressing ongoing challenges in the transportation sector, notably regarding safety concerns tied to Boeing, labor disputes, and the reversal of Biden’s vehicle emissions regulations, should Trump fulfill his campaign promises.
As Trump continues to announce his administration's personnel choices, he appears to prioritize alliance-building over traditional policy expertise, a strategy that has drawn both support and criticism in the political arena.
