NEW YORK (Civitas) — In an incredible display of survival, flight attendant Solange Tremblay was thrown from an Air Canada plane that collided with a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport. Her daughter, Sarah Lepine, announced the news, describing the incident as a total miracle.
Despite suffering multiple fractures to her leg and needing surgery, Tremblay's life was spared. Aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti noted that her survival was likely due to the four-point restraint system in place for crew members, designed to withstand severe impacts during emergencies.
“I’m still trying to understand how all this happened,” Lepine stated. “But she definitely has a guardian angel watching over her.”
The crash occurred as the plane was landing, leading to catastrophic damage to the aircraft’s nose, resulting in the tragic loss of the pilot and co-pilot. Reportedly, the Air Canada jet was landing while the fire truck responded to issues at another aircraft on the runway.
Guzzetti emphasized that the specific ‘jump seat’ used by flight attendants is built to endure greater forces than standard passenger seats due to its critical role in facilitating safe exits during emergencies. “It’s a very robust seat,” he explained.
The incident, reminiscent of prior aviation accidents, raises awareness about flight attendant safety and the importance of seating design in enhancing survival outcomes.
