Air India crash report likely ready by October, investigators say
India’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has indicated to the Supreme Court that a draft final report on the recent Air India flight collision will be available by October.
The AAIB explained that it is currently in the analysis phase of its investigation. It expects this phase to be completed in about six weeks, after which a draft final report will be assembled.
The crash, which occurred on 12 June 2025, involved an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner that exploded seconds after departing Ahmedabad and later struck a medical college building, killing 260 people, including 241 passengers and 19 on the ground. Only one passenger survived.
In its July preliminary report, the AAIB found that the plane’s fuel‑control switches had abruptly moved to the “cut‑off” position, leading to a loss of engine power. Audio from the cockpit revealed a debate between two pilots over this switch, though the identities of the pilots in the conversation were not clarified.
Following the preliminary findings, the AAIB has undertaken a full human‑factors and organisational‑culture review, collecting evidence such as the flight recorders, crew medical and training records, and conducting a psychological autopsy of at least one crew member. A transcript of the cockpit voice recorder has been compiled.

While the draft report is expected in October, the AAIB has not yet set a date for public release or disclosed any of the report’s findings. The investigation remains closed to the public, and the Supreme Court will likely decide when the final report becomes available.
