At a humanitarian convoy led by the Order of Malta, BBC reporters reached a portion of southern Lebanon that remains under Israeli control, documenting villages that had largely been left in ruins by the conflict.
The mission took place on Thursday, the day before a new ceasefire was announced between Israel and the Shia Muslim armed group Hezbollah, and the team recorded the presence of Israeli troops while access restrictions limited how much footage could be captured.
Israel says it has no intention of withdrawing its forces and plans to create a secure border zone that is free of Hezbollah activity in order to protect northern communities from rocket and drone attacks.
In the occupied areas, mainly Shia villages were extensively destroyed by air strikes or demolition orders, a situation that human‑rights groups have flagged as potentially constituting deliberate civilian infrastructure destruction, which could amount to a war crime.
