Israeli air strikes hit the Lebanese city of Tyre, killing eight residents and prompting an emergency evacuation order that now includes the Christian quarter for the first time. The Israeli Defence Forces claim Hezbollah fighters were operating in the area the previous week, prompting the strike.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that at least eight died and 32 people were injured, citing provisional figures as rescuers searched through rubble. The Israeli military issued the evacuation notice minutes after reports of air strikes on several buildings in the eastern Al‑Massaken Al‑Shaabiya area.

In the same week, Iranian forces warned that Israel could pursue a wider retaliation if the attacks in Lebanon continue, while the Israeli government remains steadfast in its campaign against Hezbollah. President Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was holding fire temporarily but would respond with “overwhelming force” to another Iranian attack.

The conflict has escalated since the ceasefire brokered by the United States on 16 April, with Israel agreeing to limit strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs but continuing operations in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has rejected the ceasefire, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists its military activities in the region are ongoing.
