At least 17 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes in the north and south of Gaza, according to hospital officials. Israel's military claimed these actions were a response to gunfire from 'terrorists' that seriously injured a soldier during military operations near the Yellow Line, which outlines the territory controlled by Israel under a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
Military sources stated that armoured units and aircraft executed precise strikes as a retaliation to what they deemed a blatant violation of the truce. Among those killed were six children, as reported from various locations including Gaza City and Khan Younis.
Al-Shifa hospital reported receiving the bodies of 13 victims, including five children, from strikes in the eastern Zeitoun and Tuffah neighborhoods. Meanwhile, Nasser hospital in Khan Younis confirmed four fatalities, including one child, resulting from airstrikes on tents in the southern Qizan Rashwan area.
Since the ceasefire commenced on October 10, both sides have exchanged accusations regarding consistent violations. Official statements from Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry cited at least 529 fatalities resulting from Israeli fire, while the Israeli military reported four soldiers killed by Palestinian attacks.
The current conflict escalated following a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and many hostages taken. In retaliation, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza that has since claimed over 71,800 lives according to the region's health authorities.
