Three people - including two police officers - have been killed in an explosion in Moscow, Russian authorities have said.
Two traffic police officers saw a suspicious individual near a police car on the city's Yeletskaya Street, and when they approached the suspect to detain him, an explosive device was detonated, Russia's Investigative Committee has stated.
The two police officers died from their injuries, along with another individual who was standing nearby.
The blast took place close to the location where a senior Russian general was killed in a car bombing in the capital earlier this week.
Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov died after an explosive device, which had been planted under a car, was detonated.
Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko confirmed that a criminal case is being investigated in Moscow regarding the attempted murder of traffic police officers.
The officers have been identified as Ilya Klimanov, 24, and Maxim Gorbunov, 25.
A local resident reported hearing a loud explosion resembling the prior car bombing.
Russia has implicated Ukraine in the recent explosion incidents, though Ukraine has not officially responded regarding its involvement with the general's death.
General Sarvarov, aged 56, was in charge of the armed forces' operational training department and is the third military official to fall victim to bomb attacks in the Russian capital within the last year.
