Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, after stating that Ukrainian drones could play a pivotal role in enhancing security in the Gulf region. In a message on social media, Zelensky highlighted the significance of the meetings scheduled during his visit, expressing appreciation towards allies willing to collaborate on security measures.

Previously, Zelensky had emphasized Ukraine's expertise in drone technology, noting its potential to address global security challenges, particularly in the Gulf, which has notable effects on European energy security and living costs. In a video message to the Joint Expeditionary Force, a security alliance meeting in Helsinki, he stressed that the key to effective security was not just in the production of new technology but in practical experience and integration with existing defense systems.

Zelensky is expected to seek assistance from Middle Eastern nations to bolster Ukraine’s defenses against its ongoing conflict with Russia. He underscored the need for air defense missiles that Ukraine lacks, hoping to negotiate an agreement during his interactions in Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian drone firms have reported growing interest from Gulf states, although governmental green lights for collaboration have yet to be fully established.

The potential drone partnership aligns with reports indicating that the U.S. may reallocate military resources initially designated for Ukraine due to escalating tensions with Iran, further highlighting the urgency of securing drone technology agreements for both Ukraine and Gulf nations. Leaders in the drone sector in Ukraine continue to prioritize their nation's security, asserting that any business decisions regarding drone exports are contingent upon government approval due to the broader political implications.
