Christian Eriksen, the 34‑year‑old Danish midfielder, wrote on Instagram that he is doing well after recovering from the collapse that occurred in Kyiv during a friendly against Ukraine.

He was admitted overnight to hospital, but told fans his recovery had already begun when he could walk off the pitch after regaining consciousness.

Eriksen’s heart condition is managed by an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, a pacemaker‑type device that monitors rhythm and delivers shocks if necessary. The device was fitted after a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 in 2021.

In the interview, the striker expressed gratitude for the crew and medical staff who assisted him, noting that the ICD performed its role during the incident, allowing a prompt response.

His return to play last year was made possible in leagues without the strict constraints of Serie A, though his Inter Milan contract was terminated in 2022 due to regulations on ICD‑fitted players.

The Danish national’s situation underscores how devices such as ICDs are lifesaving and increasingly common in football, following other cases such as Fabrice Muamba and Tom Lockyer.
